Sifu Richard Chow

CHOW

Sifu Richard Chow is the Head Instructor of the organization and is responsible for the Martial Arts content and overall curriculum of the school. He is currently a Vice-Chairman for the CCKSF (Canadian Chinese Kuo Shu Federation), an organization dedicated to promoting Chinese Martial Arts in Canada.

Background
Richard has trained in different styles of Martial Arts from an early age. His early training was in Tae Kwon Do and Outer Shaolin Kung Fu. With the basics from these styles he then spent some time training in Hung Gar before attaining the rank of instructor in Choy Li Fut under the instruction of Master Chan Tai San, a former monk from Tibet.

In 1987, Richard and his brother, Wun Dak Chow combined their knowledge of Choy Li Fut and Lama Pai to form the Twin Style Kung Fu Association, with 2 schools in the Owen Sound area and one in St. Catharines. Richard later went on to form the Southern Fist Kung Fu School.

In 1993 Richard and Wun Dak were introduced to Master Chen Rong En by Master Chen Tai San. Under his instruction they learned the Shaolin Fut Gar style of Kung Fu. Today, both Richard and Wun Dak are closed door students of Master Chen Rong En, the world’s highest ranking practitioner of the Fut Gar style of Kung Fu and recognized as the only living Fut Gar practitioner to have learned the entire system.

Now, Richard has taken this knowledge, combined with his previous training and is passing it on to the students of The National Fut Gar Kung Fu Training Centre.

Accomplishments
Sifu Chow is formerly an internationally ranked forms and free fighting competitor on the CanAm open Martial Arts Circuit. Although recent years have been focused on teaching instead of competition, Richard has won over 50 tournament awards in past CanAm, CCKSF and International Wushu Federation events including his last tournament result of Gold Medal in Northern Hand Forms in the CCKSF Canadian Kung Fu Open (1997) before retiring from competition. Sifu Chow is still a regular performer in CCKSF’s Masters of Kung Fu shows and is active as a judge in national level Kung Fu tournaments.
